He studied law at Universidad de Chile Law School (J.D.) andwas awarded his law degree in 1955. He also obtained a Master Degree in Law from the Law School of the Southern Methodist University in 1957.
He has been a Professor of Procedural Law at Universidad de Chile Law School since 1961 and Professor of Law of the Police Science Academy since 1986.
Ex president and current honorary president and director of the Chilean Institute of Procedural Law.
Senator of the Chilean Republic between April 1991 and March 1998. As such, he served as Chairman of the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee (1991-1993), Chairman of the Housing Commission (1994), Chairman of the Constitution, Legislation and Justice Committee (1995-1998). During his senatorship, he attended as a delegate of the Chilean Senate the Inter-Parliamentary Union Conferences held in Canberra (1993), Copenhagen (1994) and Madrid (1995) and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum held in Tokyo (1994) and Vancouver (1997). Distinguished Citizen of the State of Washington and of the city of Dallas, Texas. Guest speaker at various international conferences.
Member of the Chilean Delegation to the United Nations (1996). Member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce. Professor of Law at Universidad Católica of Santiago since 2009. Counselor of the Academy of Legal Studies Chile in representation of the President of the Republic.
He was the first lawyer in successfully filing an injunction.
